That makes some researchers recommend cannabidiol as a potential treatment option for circadian rhythm disorders. In other words, CBD for sleep disorders may be a treatment option in the books of those researchers.
Disruption to circadian rhythms is a reason for irregular sleep and poor sleep. Some studies involving animal models demonstrate that cannabidiol may aid in strengthening the 24-hour patterns of being asleep and awake, plus increasing sleep levels. With more such studies, there may be more acceptance for CBD sleep aid products among people soon.
Cannabidiol And REM
Cannabidiol may also address REM sleep abnormalities. The term ‘REM’ refers to a sleep phase that is vital for refreshing our brain’s emotional processing and cognitive centers. Cannabidiol is also shown to be efficacious in treating rapid eye movement sleep behavior disorder found in Parkinson’s syndrome patients.
That is a disorder that makes people act out during a dream and rapid eye movement sleep. Usually, the human body is mostly paralyzed during REM, a condition called REM atonia. That immobilization prevents people from translating what they see in their dreams into action. In the said disorder, that paralysis does not happen, which causes the person to injure themselves or the one who sleeps with them. The disorder is also associated with neurogenerative and neurological conditions, including narcolepsy and Parkinson’s disease, plus it can happen with PTSD.
Cannabidiol For Pain Relief
Researchers believe that cannabidiol has anxiolytic and analgesic effects. It is also shown to have antidepressant-like effects on animal models as well as raise the levels of serotonin in their brains. Those capabilities cause cannabidiol to be a potential relief source for individuals with sleep issues. It is only a potential option since researchers are yet to do those studies with individuals who have poor sleep, meaning the effects may be produced just in usual sleepers.
Cannabidiol can treat some chronic pain types, including the one related to multiple sclerosis, inflammation or cancer. Unhealthy inflammation can disrupt our sleep; cannabidiol can treat that issue. That makes cannabidiol a prospective treatment option for protection from sleep disruptions related to inflammation.
