Storing CBD Oil

So, you have started using CBD oil for the benefits it can offer, and you are worried about storing the same to ensure maximum shelf-life? Fortunately, storing CBD oil is not at all hard. Like any other product that can get spoiled easily, you need to take a few steps to increase the shelf life of your CBD oil. Shared below are a few practices in storing CBD oil that can ensure the maximum shelf life of the product.

Store Away From Heat

Too much exposure to heat is not good for your CBD oil. Try to store your CBD oil in a space that is about room temperature. Usually, CBD oil is made by heating a carrier oil to about 75°C and then adding hemp plant extracts to it. If the carrier oil is exposed to high temperatures, the carrier oil and CBD can get separated, making the oil cloudy. This might not deteriorate the product but can make it difficult for you to dose the CBD oil.

Avoid Light

Do not keep your CBD oil in areas that are exposed to direct sunlight, like countertops, high shelves, and windowsills. Also, it will be a good idea to not store the CBD oil in areas with artificial heat sources like shelves with constant lighting. Studies show that light exposure is one of the most important contributors to cannabinoid deterioration. This is why CBD oil is usually sold in amber-colored glass bottles that offer very good protection from the ultraviolet rays and minimize the risk of the CBD oil being exposed to light.

Minimize Air Exposure

Even though most of the CBD oils available in the market come in airtight containers, some level of air exposure is unavoidable. After, you will need to open the bottle to use it. However, as more air enters the bottle, it can deteriorate the oil. Oxygen exposure can lead to oxidative damage of the CBD oil and therefore, you need to keep air exposure to a minimum. Ensure that the cap of the bottle is tightly closed after use.

Mind The Time

With proper storage, you can expect your CBD oil to reach a shelf life of almost two years. You can never avoid this time factor when considering using CBD oil safely. After this time, the CBD oil may lose its potency and its quality can deteriorate. Therefore, do not use CBD oil after the maximum expected shelf life.
