CBG And CBD: Benefits, Differences, And More
July 17, 2022
You may have heard about CBD, but what about CBG? Don’t have a clue what CBG is? It is fine. In this article, we are going to explain two major cannabinoids present in the hemp plant and they are CBD and CBG. First, let us discuss what CBD is.
About CBD
CBD is a phytocannabinoid found in the hemp plant, known for its many therapeutic benefits. CBD makes up more than 10% of high-quality hemp and can be extracted using different methods. You might know that using cannabis products can cause euphoria, but CBD doesn’t possess such a risk. THC is the compound that is responsible for the euphoric effect associated with marijuana and all legal CBD products have less than 0.3% THC.
CBD provides us health benefits by binding on the CB2 receptors of the endocannabinoid system (ECS) in our body. CB2 cannabinoid receptors can be found in our organs, skin, muscles, etc and they connect to our peripheral nervous system. The ECS is greatly responsible for making us feel the various effects of CBD.
About CBG
CBG is the abbreviation of cannabigerol and CBG is another phytocannabinoid found in the hemp plant. This compound has a pivotal role in the development of almost all cannabinoids including CBD. CBG is the first cannabinoid synthesized from the hemp plant that later gets converted into other cannabinoids. This is the reason why CBG is also known as the mother cannabinoid.
When compared with CBD, the concentration of the cannabinoid CBG is very less in the hemp plant. Therefore extraction of CBD is easier than CBG. There is very less research on the effectiveness of CBG but it is known that CBG also binds to CB1 and CB2 receptors in the ECS. These are the same receptors to which CBD also binds.
CBD Or CBG: Which Is Better For Managing Stress?
CBD can help you to relieve stress and many studies have results supporting the stress-reducing properties of CBD. CBD products for stress management are widely available, but most of these products contain CBG too. Rather than using CBD alone, combined use of CBD along with other cannabinoids including CBG can be highly effective. This combined effect is known as the entourage effect. This entourage effect cannot be provided by CBD alone. This is the reason why full-spectrum CBD products are far more effective than broad-spectrum and pure CBD products.
